Faculty is a collective noun. A collective noun is singular in form yet identifies a group of individuals . When the group acts as a single unit, choose a singular verb. When group members act individually, choose a plural verb.

One Single Unit: The staff is hardworking and well trained.

Individual Members: The staff have earned the respect of our clients.
